Is a deposit still worth it?
A bank takes less risk when you put money in, and it can reflect that in your rate. Even a 5% or 10% deposit can lower the rate, and it lowers the amount you pay interest on. If you have savings, it's worth asking for offers both with and without a deposit.
The costs still need paying
With a 100% bond, transfer duty and attorneys' fees still come out of your pocket. That's what the extra 9% or 10% from Absa, FNB and Nedbank is for. Work out the costs.
Questions people ask
Can I get a 100% home loan as a first-time buyer?
Yes. Several lenders lend 100%, and Absa, FNB and Nedbank go to 109% or 110% for first-time buyers, subject to their own affordability checks.
